Lexile: Quantitative Measure of your Writing Complexity
I wanted to offer a little more regarding reading comprehension. In a previous post: “What Grade Level Do You Write At?” I discussed that to write for the masses, your writing level should target 4th – 5th grade. So, how do they determine what level is your writing?
What is Lexile?
Lexile measures are a quantitative measure for text complexity. They don’t address whether the book is appropriate for your child’s age. Some books also have a two-letter designation that appears before a Lexile measure called a Lexile Code.
Lexile Analyzer
Paste or type in text of 1,000 words or less to discover:
- The Lexile range for the text.
- Early Reading Indicator information for texts 650L and below.
- Lists of similar books.
- Challenging words highlighted in the text along with their definitions, parts of speech, example sentences.
- Toggle to Spanish to paste or type text in Spanish and get a Lexile range.
